Journeys Toward Healing is Otoniel or "Toni" Calderon (he/they), a Professional Counselor Associate, located in Portland, Oregon.  I identify as Latino/e, gay, mostly CIS/non-binary, and as a first generation American of Mexican descent.  I am bilingual and can provide services in both English & Spanish. 

Philosophy and Approach:  I believe that every person has within them the potential for healing and growth, while sometimes needing the support of a caring and knowledgeable trusted professional in overcoming any barriers towards those goals.  I provide a person-centered approach tailoring therapeutic techniques to meet each individual’s unique needs.

 

Formal Education & Training: I received my master’s degree in counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio.   I received training through two internships at Alpha Home, an addiction treatment center along with my practicum at the UTSA Sarabia Family Counseling Center, both located in San Antonio, TX.  I have also been trained by MAPS in MDMA-Assisted Psychotherapy & by InnerTrek in Psilocybin Facilitation.  I have been trained in EMDR by the EMDR Institute.  I have been trained in Hypnosis by the Oregon Society of Clinical Hypnosis.  I am happy to provide evidence of my degree/certifications upon request.

 

As a Professional Counselor Associate / Registered Associate with the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists (Board), I abide by its Code of Ethics. I am supervised by Galen Cohen, a Licensed Professional Counselor, which I will be happy to explain.

 

As a client of an Oregon Professional Counseling Associate / Registered Associate, you have the following rights:

  • To expect that a Professional Counselor Associate / Registered Associate has met the qualifications of training and experience required by state law;

  • To examine public records maintained by the Board and to have the Board confirm credentials of a Professional Counselor Associate / Registered Associate;

  • To obtain a copy of the Code of Ethics (Oregon Administrative Rules 833-100);

  • To report complaints to the Board;

  • To be informed of the cost of professional services before receiving the services;

  • To be assured of privacy and confidentiality while receiving services as defined by rule or law, with the following exceptions: 1) Reporting suspected child abuse; 2) Reporting imminent danger to you or others; 3) Reporting information required in court proceedings or by your insurance company, or other relevant agencies; 4) Providing information concerning Professional Counselor Associate / Registered Associate case consultation or supervision; and 5) Defending claims brought by you against me;

  • To be free from being the object of discrimination on any basis listed in the Code of Ethics while receiving services.
